The equative involves a comparison between two arguments which have received identical thematic roles from identical adjectives, and which have the same degree of comparison. Some examples are provided below:

Example 1

a. Rintsje is like tûk as Ids
Rintsje is as smart as Ids
Rintsje is as smart as Ids
b. Kinst der like goed mei ophâlde as der mei trochgean
can.2SG R as well with stop as R with continue
It does not matter if you quit or if you continue

Various aspects of the equative may be distinguished: its formation, the lower degree equative, the equative complement, the position of the subcategorized Adposition Phrase (PP), negative polarity, partitive adjective construction, correlative construction and metaphor.
