Preceding infinitival clause

The te too construction cannot easily occur with a preceding clause.


The te too construction cannot occur with a preceding clause (unlike the sa so construction), although the examples improve considerably in case the clause contains an object gap. This is illustrated in the examples below:

Example 1

a. *Hy wie om Frysk te praten, te benaud
he was for Frisian to talk too timid
He was too timid to speak Frisian
b. ?Hja wie om út te noegjen, te jong
she was for out to invite too young
She was too young to be invited
