er- /ər/ is a very marginal prefix that occurs in only three verbs, probably all three loans from German: ervaren to experience, erkennen to recognize and erbarmen to take mercy on. There is no systematic meaning correlation between the stem and the prefixed verb, although historically the prefix seems to have had an inchoative meaning.
